This lovely lady is Miss Abby. She's here with Peter who is a runner who runs with disabled athletes. Peter took Abby on her first 50k.
Abby's family had posted a Go Fund Me to help finance a used lift van for the family and I saw it posted to my wall. After having a board meeting, we asked the family for permission to help them meet their funding goal on Christmas Eve 2015.
We exceeded their goal by over $1000 so that they were able to have some extra money in case of repair work, or if Abby wanted racing stripes or got a ticket hot rodding it down the street...which if you've met Abby, just might happen! She's amazing!

We are choosing to bless two families this year, but have not talked to them yet. When they have accepted, we will update here!

How can you look at that picture and NOT want to help? Layla is, as her mom calls her, Thing 1, with her big brother Owen or Thing 2, who was always by her side as she fought Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. When we read her story, we were all taken by it.
When I reached out to the family, at first they said that so many others deserved it more, but I insisted that we wanted to help a local family who had been through a lot and that they deserved it. Finally mom gave in and we had the pleasure of raising money for Miss Layla and her family to help ease their burden.
As of May 11, 2017 Layla's scans came back cancer free! She even ran our kid's race, so hallelujah!
